Southwest Afghan or Indian Blanket

Today's article features something that I made several years ago.

This is a design by Carol M. Tipton. The design is in an Oxmoor House book called "Crocheted Afghans". Here are the cover and some pages from it:

The colours in the photo really spoke to me. And I managed to get some reasonable equivalents (albeit not quite as intense as the book showed).

This afghan was fun, because it featured three different techniques:

  • Basic crochet (half double crochet, and double crochet into the stitch two rows below)
  • Afghan stitch or Tunisian crochet
  • Cross Stitch on the Afghan stitch sections
It was the stitch variety and those colours that really inspired me to create the afghan.

And now it resides in the cot that my grandson sleeps in while he is visiting me.

It would be easy to design something similar. Try it!
